X (2022)

In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.

A24 the studio behind the witch and hereditary signs a new old-fashioned horror film that plunges us into the 70's. Set against a pornographic movie backdrop, the film is never vulgar or gratuitous as it shows the behind-the-scenes of a film shoot that is forbidden to minors. It’s not porn, it’s art.

With juicy dialogues and intelligent humor, X mixes The Visit (M. Shyamalan) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Tobe Hooper) to offer us octogenarian killers looking for new sensations. Because yes, even if the reasons for the murders are sometimes ambiguous, there is an in-depth work on the psychology and sexuality of these people who feel terribly alone.

Unlike most horror films, the acting is excellent. With a young but not unknown cast, a female trio that is not afraid to break its image. Mia Goth (Suspiria) plays a pornstar and girlfriend of the director with brilliance while Jenna Ortega (Scream) continues to surprise and break her image despite her young age. Beware, sensitive soul, the film is violent and sometimes disturbing with extreme bloody scenes.

Ty West brings together all the ingredients in a scenario that will please all lovers of the horror genre. A slasher porn movie with gore and sexuality that masters its atmosphere and its tension all along. The less you know, the better the discovery will be.
